Collaboration with Achieving Collaborative Treatment (ACT)
Background
Achieving Collaborative Treatment (ACT) has been an Autism treatment provider in the Madison and surrounding area since 2009. ACT provides quality services that are child-centered and incorporates families in treatment to maximize outcome. Over the past several years, ACT has provided Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy in the Fennimore area. During that time ACT has become aware of the extreme need for such services for rural families in Southwest Wisconsin. Recently, state funding for treatment services transitioned from a state waiver funded program to a MA. The need for services in rural Wisconsin was a major topic in working with the state in this transition process. ACT is working with Fennimore Schools to assist in addressing the needs of children on the Autism spectrum or are in need of behavioral interventions but feel there is more that can be done to address the need in rural parts of the state.
Scope
ACT is seeking to establish a center-based treatment option for families in the Fennimore area. This would provide families an opportunity to bring children to a location to receive ABA treatment for children on the Autism spectrum. This opportunity would seek to address a need in the area while providing an opportunity for Southwest Wisconsin to assess a growing educational need. Autism treatment relies on college students to assist in providing treatment while being supervised by credentialed staff. It is clinically recommended that children receive intensive therapy (26-40 hours per week). However, many children are not receiving this level of treatment due to lack of qualified staff in rural areas. Providers routinely hire staff that are not qualified in rural areas resulting sub-standard treatment. The development of quality training for young adults in the area would address staffing needs while maintaining quality treatment. The development of a clinic-based treatment option in Fennimore will significantly improve treatment options in the area.
Collaboration with Schools
The Learning Center contracts with school districts to provide training for students for the duration of the school year. Students are transported by the school to and from the facility. While at the Learning Center, students will work on goals and competencies written by the school's IEP team and facility staff. Progress will be reviewed to evaluate student's using tools and strategies learned at center and applied to school and daily life.
